CKEL Chernobyl Children Fund

(Chapter of the CRFCVB)

Who We Are

The CKEL Chernobyl Children Fund was formed to provide medical and humanitarian aid to the people of Belarus who continue to live each day amidst the radioactive pollutants of the world’s worst nuclear disaster. We have worked locally for 10 years.

A non-profit, charitable non-governmental organization, the  fund is based in Chatham-Kent Essex & Lambton.

Our Mission Statement

The CKEL Fund is dedicated to helping the victims of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. By providing them with health respites, humanitarian aid, and words of encouragement, our goal is to give them ‘hope for the future.

The early-morning explosion of Reactor 4 at the Chernobyl nuclear plant on April 26, 1986 is still a grim fact of life for the people who live in contaminated regions of Belarus, the Ukraine and Russia. The small country of Belarus (just 10 km north of the Chernobyl power plant) received over 70 per cent of the radioactive fallout due to wind and weather patterns that day.

Our Fund focuses on the most vulnerable portion of the Belarusian population - the children. An estimated 800,000 live the affected areas.
